Help Shape Weld County’s Future: Why the Comprehensive Plan Update Matters

By AGPROfessionals Land Use, Planning, & Permitting Team | November 10, 2025

Weld County is taking an important step toward shaping its future by updating its Comprehensive Plan, the long-range policy document that will guide how the county grows, develops, and invests in infrastructure over the coming decade.

As one of Colorado’s fastest-growing regions, Weld County faces unique challenges and opportunities. The Comprehensive Plan serves as a roadmap for growth, helping to balance housing, business, agriculture, and open space while preserving the rural character that defines our community.

At AGPROfessionals, we’re proud to participate in the County’s working sessions for this plan. With more than 25 years of experience in land use planning, permitting, and agricultural development, our team is deeply rooted in this region, both professionally and personally. We see this process as a chance to ensure that Weld County continues to thrive in ways that reflect local values and long-term vision.

What the Comprehensive Plan Does

The Comprehensive Plan provides the framework for how Weld County will:

  • Manage growth in unincorporated areas.
  • Guide infrastructure investments.
  • Support economic opportunity.
  • Preserve agricultural lands and open spaces.
  • Maintain quality of life for residents.

This update is designed to reflect the evolving needs of today’s communities and to prepare for tomorrow’s opportunities.

Why Local Voices Are Essential

A successful Comprehensive Plan isn’t written by planners alone. It’s shaped by community input. Weld County residents, landowners, and businesses will play a vital role in identifying what matters most:

  • How should our communities grow?
  • What balance do we want between development and agriculture?
  • How can we support both business innovation and rural heritage?

As Commissioner Coordinator Kevin Ross shared, “This update gives us the opportunity to make sure our policies and priorities reflect the needs of today’s residents and the opportunities of tomorrow. We look forward to hearing from residents as we plan for the county’s future.”

AGPROfessionals’ Role in the Process

Our Land Use Planning and Permitting Team is participating directly in the working sessions to share insights from decades of collaboration with counties across Colorado and Idaho. As Kelsey Bruxvoort, AGPROfessionals’ Planning Manager, explains, “We understand how important this Comprehensive Plan update is for the future of our communities. The plan will influence how development unfolds and which land uses are permitted or restricted. It’s essential that Weld County residents and business owners stay engaged and help shape policies that reflect local values and opportunities.”

Our goal is to advocate for thoughtful, balanced growth that supports communities, agriculture, and industry, keeping Weld County strong for generations to come.

How to Get Involved

Beginning in January 2026, Weld County residents will have opportunities to share ideas, attend meetings, and provide feedback on draft policies. We encourage all community members, from farmers and business owners to homeowners and students, to take part in the process.

You can follow updates and learn how to participate by visiting the Weld County Comprehensive Plan webpage.
