Hey everybody, my name is Manny Rutinel.
I'm a state representative over in Colorado. Oh, now I can hear myself. That's nice. I just want to, at the top, give a shout out to whoever brought in Just Egg into the breakfast area. If you are what you eat. I'm like 15 to 20% Just Egg. That would be Megan. OK, shout out to Priscilla then. Thank you. Oh, Megan and Megan. OK, I'm going to find Megan afterwards.
So I'm a state representative in Colorado. I also co-teach an animal law course at University of Denver Law School. Before I was a legislator, I was an environmental attorney with Earthjustice. My whole job was to take on large meat corporations and sue them for all their worth to defend low income people of color that were subjected to the environmental injustices of those factory farms that they were responsible for holding up.
Before then, I was in law school and in law school I got to intern at the Animal Legal Defense Fund. I got to intern with Brighter Green, which is another organization that's in the environmental and animal space. I also started my own startup in law school because at my law school, there was this lab or clinic that was basically dedicated to coming up with ideas and then trying to implement them.
And so it was the Climate, Animals, Food and Environments Law and Policy Lab, and I came up with a startup. And when the pandemic hit, instead of paying $80,000 a year for Zoom law school, I decided to take a year off and dedicate my time to that startup and work on the, like, a Senate campaign in Colorado and the Georgia runoff election. So if you ever have an opportunity to take time off in the middle of the pandemic, I highly recommend it.
And then before law school, I was an economist for the US Army Corps of Engineers.
And got to intern at the Humane Society of the United States and their policy division. And then in college I was a campus coordinator with the Humane League.
