Weld County is Updating Its Comprehensive Plan

AGPROfessionals Joins the Working Sessions

Weld County, Colorado, one of the fastest-growing counties in the state, is launching an update to its Comprehensive Plan, the long-range policy document that shapes Weld County’s land use, growth, infrastructure, and community development in unincorporated areas.

As a locally based company, our AGPROfessionals Land Use Planning & Permitting Team will engage directly in the working sessions to share expertise and perspectives from years of collaborating with counties across Colorado and Idaho.

Why the Comprehensive Plan Matters

The Weld County Comprehensive Plan serves as a roadmap for future growth. It ensures that the county continues to expand in ways that support residents, sustain a strong economy, and preserve the rural and agricultural character that defines the region. The plan update will incorporate feedback from residents, landowners, businesses, and community stakeholders, providing a shared vision for Weld County’s future.

Commissioner Coordinator Kevin Ross underscored the value of community input:

“This update gives us the opportunity to make sure our policies and priorities reflect the needs of today’s residents and the opportunities of tomorrow. We look forward to hearing from residents as we plan for the county’s future.”

AGPROfessionals’ Role in the Process

AGPROfessionals’ commitment to clients involved in agriculture, agribusiness, and industrial development drives our participation in the Weld County Comprehensive Plan update. Being involved enables us to help identify opportunities and challenges that affect these areas, which are core components of Weld County’s identity and economy.

AGPROfessionals’ Planning Manager, Kelsey Bruxvoort, described it this way,

“As a company headquartered in Weld County with more than 25 years of experience in local land planning, we understand how important this Comprehensive Plan update is for the future of our communities. The plan will have far-reaching effects on what land uses are permitted or restricted in both urban and rural areas and will influence how development unfolds in the coming decade. It’s essential that Weld County residents and business owners stay engaged and help shape policies that reflect local values and opportunities.

We have deep roots in agriculture, rural communities, and land development as well as a long history of working alongside Weld County property owners and businesses. We understand how the county’s land-use codes have evolved over time, and we’re proud to take part in this process. We will participate as an advocate for thoughtful, balanced growth, ensuring that Weld County remains a place where communities, businesses, and agriculture can thrive together.”

By engaging in these discussions, AGPROfessionals’ Planning and Permitting team aims to help mitigate potential risks and ensure that policies support responsible growth and business success. Our team will continue to monitor the process closely and share important updates as the plan progresses. The outcomes of this process will influence future decisions regarding land use applications, zoning code updates, intergovernmental agreements, and infrastructure planning.

How Residents Can Get Involved

Beginning in January 2026, Weld County residents will have the opportunity to share ideas, provide feedback, and stay informed about the plan’s progress. Community input is vital to shaping policies that reflect the county’s evolving needs.
