Golf, Rodeo, and the American West Converge at Rodeo Dunes
The inaugural Duel at the Dunes, a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) invitational rough stock event, debuted September 30, 2025, at the brand-new Rodeo Dunes Golf Resort in Roggen, Colorado. The competition aired live on The Cowboy Channel, bringing national attention to this unique fusion of rodeo and golf.
The event was created with two goals: to celebrate the soft opening of Rodeo Dunes' first golf course and to give the top 20 professional rough stock athletes one final chance to secure a berth in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR). With $60,000 in prize money on the line, saddle bronc riders, bareback riders, and bull riders competed fiercely in hopes of breaking into the coveted Top 15 standings before season’s end.
AGPROfessionals is proud to partner with Rodeo Dunes on this “golfing meets rodeo” venture. While Rodeo Dunes and the Cervis preserve the western heritage of their historic ranch, AGPROfessionals provides expertise in land use, surveying, and civil engineering, supporting development of the golf courses and associated facilities to make Rodeo Dunes a first-class destination.
Rodeo Dunes Golf Resort
Located in rural Weld County just outside Roggen, midway between AGPROfessionals’ Greeley headquarters and Denver International Airport, Rodeo Dunes is poised to become Colorado’s next premier public golf destination. Construction began in 2024 on ranch land owned by the Cervi family.
The resort is owned and operated by Dream Golf and designed by world-renowned architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Several holes were ready for limited preview play on the day of the rodeo, giving founders, investors, and invited guests (including bullfighters) the chance to enjoy the rolling links before the evening’s competition.
The Duel at the Dunes
The Duel at the Dunes is the result of a unique collaboration between the PRCA, Cervi Championship Rodeo, Dream Golf, and The Cowboy Channel. Cervi Championship Rodeo, longtime clients of AGPROfessionals, supplied the world-class stock for a single go-round capped by a three-man shootout finale.
Nestled in the dunes just southwest of the first tee, the newly built outdoor arena hosted a sell-out crowd who experienced a fast-paced, action-packed evening under the stars. The atmosphere was intentionally steeped in western tradition, creating what felt like a living snapshot of the historic American West.
While golf and rodeo may seem an unlikely pairing, Tom Ferrell, Dream Golf’s Vice President of Media and Communications, captured the connection well:
“Both of these sports grew up from agricultural settings. Land use ethics are very important. We share the values of conservation and preservation of traditional land and open spaces. I would say golf and rodeo are two of the most merit-based sports there are. The horse doesn’t care who you are when you get on him. The golf course doesn’t care where you came from. It’s just you and that ball that day. I see this as a great meeting of cultures.”
A New Tradition
The inaugural Duel at the Dunes proved to be an overwhelming success, one-of-a-kind in its format and setting. With roots in western heritage and a backdrop of world-class golf, this event is positioned to become a highly anticipated annual tradition in Colorado’s high plains.
